Graffiti aHead: Portraits of the Midwest Graffiti/Street Artists by Felix Maldonado, has been extended through June 30 at the Gary Public Library and Cultural Center, 220 W. 5th Avenue, Main Art Gallery, 2nd floor.

The program is FREE and will feature a performance titled The Meeting, written by Jeff Stetson and directed by Mark Spencer of the West Side Theater Guild.
Refreshments will be served. Library service ends at 5pm on Saturdays.

The renovated former Main Library building includes a 100-seat theatre and a spacious community room with kitchen. Both will be available to rent for community programs, social events and functions.
A new computer lab for adults provides 41 computers and the children’s computer lab provides 20 computers. A wi-fi lounge with vending machines is also located on the main floor. Other public areas include a tutoring lab, Friends Store, 2nd floor study area, additional gallery space and new Indiana Room of local history.

Submission forms are available at all library units or the library’s website, www.garypubliclibrary.org and may include famous Garyites, Garyites who have made great contributions, etc.
Names/images chosen will be based on how well they reflect the character, culture, and history of Gary, Indiana.
Deadline for submissions is January 3, 2018.

The Du Bois Library is expected to close after the renovated Gary Public Library and Cultural Center, 220 W. 5th Avenue, opens. That date has yet to be determined.
After October 1, patrons are encouraged to use the library’s other branches: Du Bois Library 1835 Broadway, 886-9120, Monday – Thursday 9am - 8pm, Friday & Saturday 9am - 5pm; Kennedy Branch 3953 Broadway 887-8112, Monday 10am - 6pm, Wednesday & Thursday noon - 8pm, Saturday 10am - 4pm, closed Tuesday & Friday; and Woodson Branch, 501 S. Lake Street, 938-3941, Monday & Thursday noon - 8pm, Tuesday 10am - 6pm, Saturday 10am - 4pm, closed Wednesday & Friday.

Gary Public Library’s newest program, Art Girls – Smart Girls! is an ongoing program designed to help girls who are creative in the arts but need extra help in math and science. We are looking for enthusiastic educators that are willing to tutor our young people (grades 3rd – 12th ) in math and science.
Participants will have an opportunity to receive tutoring in math and science as well as learn about and create works of art. For more information or to volunteer as a tutor, contact 886-2484 ext. 311.
